Eyelash Extensions!! Newest Addiction!!!

My newest addiction is eyelash extensions!!! According to my lash extension professional- eyelash extensions are considered the new "boobies" of 2010- hahaha I'd actually like a new pair (hey after two kids things are hanging a little low okay!! - tmi) I did a lot of my research and decided to to get them a year after initially researching. I was pleasantly surprised at how many people and places are now offering this service. At first I thought that only the rich and movie stars could afford this, but boy was I wrong. They are getting done by stay at home moms, and women of all professions. I have bone straight, sparse short Asian eyelashes, I have tried everything under the sun to make them appear longer and fuller. I looked forward to events when I would wear "falsies" t achieve exotic luscious eyes!

After bumping into a girlfriend I hadn't seen in years and not being able to take my eye of her eyes- she told me her lil' secret- they were extensions.

So what are lash extensions? Well, according to babylon they are:

A natural wear, a natural look, and a natural feel are what is expected after receiving eyelash extensions. Like hair extensions, eyelash extensions are a cosmetic process whereby synthetic materials are applied to create a fuller, longer look. Once a product accessible only to a limited consumer, eyelash extensions have become more popular and affordable. Aiming for an authentic, natural feel, they come in various lengths, colors and thicknesses, and can be worn during sleep, showering and swimming. However, excessive exposure to water and heat can weaken adhesive bond. Eyelash extensions differ from "fake" or "false" eyelashes in that they are applied one by one, and can last for two to six weeks.

The process is fairly painless and actually very comfortable. You generally lay down on a comfortable table, they place an eye tape under the eye and a painless tape over the eyelids. The professional who I recommend be certified then places extensions of various lengths you both have determined with a medical grade glue to your natural lash. This in no way damages your natural length. This is not a permanent solution, as they lashes will fall of according to your regular lash cycle which can run anywhere from 60-90 days. However, to continue with the look of your initial application, it is recommended to come in for fills every 3-4 weeks.

I just love waking up and already feeling nearly done with my makeup routine. I'm so happy I have decided to go this route. FYI-- shop around, research, research, research the places you plan on going to. Use Yelp, don't hesitate to call and ask questions, don't be afraid. I highly recommend asking to look at their picture books- photos of lash extensions previously done.
I was lucky enough to find a very reasonably priced, well informed individual in the Renton/Seattle area. For my initial application I paid $115, and it took about 1.5 to 2 hours. I then come in every 3-4 weeks for fills which are priced at $55.
This is the best beauty investment I have ever made, next to my tweezerman tweezers!!

  1. OMIGOSH, I am envious. I have virtually NO lashes. They're so short, I can't even curl them with the Shu Uemura curler (which is so highly touted). I dont even bother with mascara (a lot of allergies and sensitivities kept me from using eye makeup since 2000, and i only started cautiously experimenting with shadow/liner this spring). I hope you continue to rock them!!!!

And welcome to the Slimmin Challenge.

  2. Hi Christine, welcome to the challenge! The eyelashes look really nice. I have quite long/thick eyelashes but they're quite light, so I'm always rocking mascara to make them look darker. I've never tried false ones though.

Please remember to put either a summer slimmin' badge in your sidebar to link back tot he challenge page, or a text link if you can't get the pic working. Let us know what your goals are for the next two months!
